
Gumboot Theatre Company is a small Australian theatre company dedicated to producing original works that play and intrigue.
We aim to create independent theatre that takes risks and explores our shared experiences. Artistic director & producer Penelope Gordon leads a small rotating team of talented artists exploring new ideas and developing works from early sparks to fully-realised productions.

Penelope Gordon (she/her) graduated in 2024 from the Advanced Diploma of Performance (Acting) from WAAPA after previously having completed a Diploma of Acting from WAAPA in 2021. She has a Cert IV in Business from Swinburne University, and is the proud Artistic Director & Producer of Gumboot Theatre Company.

Tom Heath (WAAPA, 2021); ‘Twelfth Night’, dir. Tom Heath (WAAPA, 2024); ‘Ghosts’, dir. Will O’Mahony (WAAPA, 2024); ‘Ivy’s Playground’, dir. Tom Heath (WAAPA, 2024), 'Articulate' (Gumboot Theatre Co, Perth FringeWorld 2025, Edinburgh Fringe 2025, Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2026), and 'Constellations' (dir. Tessie Yu, 2026).
Producing credits include: Articulate (Gumboot Theatre Co) for Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2026, Edinburgh Fringe 2025 & Perth FringeWorld 2025, winner of the Perth FringeWorld Weekly Theatre Award; Confessional (Gumboot Theatre Co) for Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2026 & The Jonesway Theatre 2025 season; Bite Back (dir. Tara Booth - winner of the Blaz Award), DM ME (Play On Productions) & Broken Wheel (dir. Indi Ellison) for Perth FringeWorld 2026; The Real Australia (Play On Productions) for Edinburgh Fringe 2025 & Perth FringeWorld 2025; and THE MACHINE (dir. Jaz Hosken) for Melbourne Fringe 2025. Penelope is currently producing two upcoming works by Gumboot Theatre Co; Dreaming of You for Melbourne Fringe 2026 and Truth, Dare, Pash at the Fairfield Amphitheatre in February 2027.
